May We Have The Envelope, Please?

At this year’s Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce holiday party, we were awarded the honor of 2010 Business of the Year. Now we have won a variety of different design awards in years past, but this particular award is by far the most meaningful. For us, it symbolizes the dedication we have put toward helping our clients and our community.

In preparing our acceptance speech that night, we started reminiscing about the day we opened the doors of GD Squared four years ago. On that very first day, I took a deep breath and picked up the phone to start my first round of cold calls. Fifth on the list that day was the LSCC, and that call has led to a truly wonderful and creative partnership (and spoiled us into thinking cold calling was easy!)

I can still remember skipping down to the Chamber’s office on that cold Chicago day to get involved with a window poster for an upcoming kids’ day. The thrill of getting to work on this poster project filled us with an unbridled enthusiasm that we try to summon for each of our projects to this day. Now, as we stroll through the neighborhood to grab a morning cup of coffee or a sandwich for lunch, we get to look around at the street pole banners, signs, posters, and logo that we designed for Lincoln Square. We have a sense that design matters – and good design can be used as a visual reference point to help foster a sense of community.

Our goal is and has always been to do great work for good people. From our very first day, we have been fortunate enough to do that. As we were up on stage being handed this award, we were flattered to be recognized as such an integral part of the community. Thank you to the Chamber and to all of our wonderful clients. We wish each of you a joyful holiday season. And if you find yourself in the neighborhood, feel free to stop on by!

Ah! I should have known GD Squared was behind the Apple Fest event poster design as well — I remember seeing it around the neighborhood and noting the inspired use of die-cuts. Great jobs guys, and congratulations!
